Demolish the neglected Checkers building in Cordova, TN

Demolish the neglected Checkers building in Cordova, TN
The Issue
Living in Cordova, Tennessee, has always been a source of pride for me. Our community is vibrant, filled with warm and caring individuals who take pride in their surroundings. However, the abandoned Checkers building on Trinity Road next to the Exxon (Hop-In) gas station stands in sharp contrast to the spirit of our neighborhood. Over the past year, this building has not only deteriorated but has also become a magnet for unwanted guests, causing distress among local residents.
The history of the building is known to many of us. Originally closed due to health department concerns, it now lays neglected, creating an eyesore in our beautiful community. Its dilapidated state is more than just a visual inconvenience; it poses potential health hazards and attracts undesirable activities that threaten the safety and peace of our neighborhood.
Studies have shown that neglected properties can affect community morale and property values. According to the National Association of Realtors, the presence of abandoned buildings can lower nearby property values by as much as 10%. This is simply unacceptable for the residents of Cordova who take pride in maintaining their homes and neighborhood.
To address this issue, I urge the local authorities to take immediate action either by enforcing existing regulations to either revitalize or demolish the building, or by facilitating its sale to an entity committed to redevelopment. Revamping the site could provide job opportunities, local investment, and restore a sense of pride in our community.
The time to act is now. Together, we can reclaim this space and transform it into something beneficial for everyone in Cordova. I kindly ask for your support by signing this petition to urge the local government to address the issue of the neglected Checkers building. Our community deserves better, and with your help, we can make positive change happen.
