Styrofoam is not only destroying our environment, but has been proven to be a health hazard. The EPA and the International Agency for Research on Cancer have established Styrene, the main component of Styrofoam, as a possible human carcinogen. This means there is mounting evidence pointing to the toxicity of Styrofoam. It has been proven that Styrene is leeching into our food or drinks, directly from Styrofoam containers. Styrofoam is also non-biodegradable, which means that Styrofoam is filling our landfills and polluting our waterways. Styrofoam takes 500 years to decompose, and it takes up 25-30% of our world’s landfills.

We are asking the food establishments in the town of Demarest, New Jersey to discontinue the use of all styrene and polystyrene products. The community of Demarest wants to put an end to dangerous chemicals and pollution in our town.
