As a previous resident of Warren County for 22 years, I've seen firsthand how our once-respected school district has been compromised by those in power. It leads me, with a heavy heart, to the issue that I and many other concerned residents now face - the unbecoming behavior of our North River District School Board Member, Ms. Melanie Salins.

My personal ordeal with her escalated on April 8, 2024, when I received a cease and desist letter from Salins' attorney just for expressing my concerns about our school district's actions. Such events instilled fear in my family and ultimately led us to sell our cherished home of two decades.

Unfortunately, my story isn't unique. Numerous residents have reported instances of harassment, threats, and intimidation perpetrated by supporters of Ms. Salins. This type of conduct shakes the pillars of our democratic society and infringes upon the First Amendment rights of residents, rights that protect our freedom of speech especially when referring to matters affecting our schools.

The misuse of Ms. Salins position within the School Board is not only detrimental to the citizens' trust in our educational system but also poses direct harm to the democratic principles the school district should uphold. This is an utter neglect of her duties as an elected official and has lingering adverse effects on the community's faith in the school board's ability to serve in the best interest of our district and most importantly, our children.

We call upon the necessary authorities to inspect the actions of Ms. Salins meticulously and insist that she immediately resign from her role on the Warren County School Board. Every elected official must honor and respect the rights of the citizens they serve, without making them fear for voicing legitimate concerns. Any breach of such duty should not be tolerated. Warren County residents deserve representatives who respect and uphold the values of democracy.
