Demanding Accountability: Investigate Edward Blum and Nonprofits Targeting Black People
The Issue
We, the concerned citizens, are calling for a thorough investigation into the actions of Edward Blum and the nonprofits he has established. We believe that these organizations are abusing their 501C3 status and using it to carry out race-based litigious actions against black people, all under the guise of advocating for white and Asian rights.
Our petition comes in response to a recent lawsuit filed by the American Alliance for Equal Rights against the Fearless Fund. We see this lawsuit as an act of discrimination and bullying, unfairly targeting the efforts of black women in the startup ecosystem. Despite black women receiving less than 0.35% of all VC funding, selective groups continue to receive a disproportionately higher rate of funding.
Highlighting the stark reality, black women only receive a meager 0.35% of all VC funding, which is less than a full percentage point of the billions flowing through the startup ecosystem. If true equality were prevailing, wouldn't we be challenging VC funds open to everyone, where a selective group repeatedly receives a disproportionately higher share of funding? Interestingly, there are several VC funds available for black founders, some even backed by major entities like Goldman Sachs. So why was a small fund in Atlanta singled out? Could it be due to its vulnerability in the face of a targeted attack, potentially draining its resources in legal battles, as evident from the Prayer of Relief on page 12 of the Fearless Fund:
PRAYER FOR RELIEF: AAER respectfully requests the Court to rule in their favor against Fearless Fund, providing the following relief:
A. A declaratory judgment that Defendants’ Fearless Strivers Grant Contest violates Section 1981.
B. A temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction barring Defendants from closing the fourth application period, selecting grant recipients, or enforcing racially discriminatory eligibility criteria for the Fearless Strivers Grant Contest.
C. A permanent injunction barring Defendants from enforcing racially discriminatory eligibility criteria for the program.
D. Nominal damages. E. Reasonable costs and expenses of this action, including attorneys' fees, under 42 U.S.C. §1988 and any other applicable laws.
F. All other relief that AAER is entitled to, including any action necessary to undo Defendants' closure of the application window or selection of a winner.
Moreover, we advocate for the inclusion of a clause: If a company is 51% owned by a black person, the remaining ownership can be co-granted to a non-black person. So in reality, It's time to address all inherent biases and discriminatory practices that hinder the progress of minority-owned businesses, instead of targeting one VC fund dedicated to uplifting black women in response to being commonly overlooked for funding.
Edward Blum's history and career provide compelling evidence of his inherent bias towards black people, indicating that his actions are indeed driven by a personal vendetta. In 1990, he sought a congressional seat and decided to run against Democrat Craig Anthony Washington, who was running unopposed. When Blum lost to the said black man, instead of accepting defeat graciously, he blamed the gerrymander and took his case to the Supreme Court, as documented in the case of Bush v. Vera (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush_v._Vera This incident marked the beginning of a 30-year journey, where rather than engaging in political endeavors to bring about positive change, he took it upon himself to establish multiple nonprofits funded by alt-right donors.
Regrettably, these nonprofits have been exploiting the litigious system with meritless cases, leading to the potential long-term harm to the opportunities and rights of minority groups. It is deeply concerning that Mr. Blum's actions seem to target civil rights, specifically those of black people. Furthermore, his public statement denying the existence of systematic oppression aligns with his work, making us question the sincerity of his intentions.
When someone dismisses the reality of systematic oppression, despite the overwhelming evidence supported by real-world examples and statistical data, while simultaneously attempting to undermine civil rights and dismantle diversity, it can only be perceived as an act of weaponizing color blindness. Such an approach offers no viable solution to address racial inequality; instead, it perpetuates the cycle of discrimination.
We firmly believe that Mr. Blum's actions are counterproductive to progress and justice. It is crucial to expose his motives and raise awareness about the potential harm his agenda may inflict upon marginalized communities, particularly black individuals.
Blum's stance on systematic oppression aligns with his work, as he aims to dismantle diversity and perpetuate hate under the guise of "color blindness." We demand that Edward Blum and the nonprofits he has founded, including Students for Fair Admission, Project on Fair Representation, and the American Alliance for Equal Rights, be thoroughly investigated for potential hate group activities and targeting minorities with litigious actions.
Additionally, we call for an evaluation of Edward Blum's mental state due to his obsession with repealing civil rights and promoting discrimination, as well as addressing his self-benefit from the organization of these lawsuits and funds. His funds appear to be mere fronts for corporate mega-donors seeking to manipulate the law. "From 2015-2020, Blum’s two main non-profits, Project on Fair Representation and Students for Fair Admissions, received $11.2 million in contributions, with Blum receiving more than $900,000 in pay", as discovered by James S Murphy who is an educational analyst.
Furthermore, we believe that the law firm CONSOVOY MCCARTHY PLLC, used to file the lawsuit, may have a preconceived bias against minorities and should be investigated for potential misconduct based on their case selection history.
By signing this petition, you are joining us in raising awareness about this concerning situation and shedding light on Edward Blum's decades-long efforts to dismantle civil rights. Together, we seek justice and equality for all, promoting a society that values diversity and inclusivity.
