The Issue

Living in Carnes Crossroads has always brought a sense of community and peace, but recent events have heightened my concern for the safety of everyone in our neighborhood. In the past 48 hours alone, Xfinity has struck two gas lines while attempting to bury fiber optic cables in our front yards. Each incident has not only posed immediate dangers but has also significantly increased the risk for potential catastrophic damage to our infrastructure neighbors' lives.

Gas leaks can lead to devastating explosions, not just causing property damage but also risking serious injuries or even fatalities. The presence of multiple utility lines in close proximity further amplifies this risk, especially since the lines are now being placed in our yards. Historically, these fiber lines were installed in the grassy area between the sidewalk and street—a location that keeps them away from larger gas mains and critical infrastructure.

Reverting to this safer installation practice would drastically reduce the likelihood of gas line strikes. It’s a proven approach that emphasizes both safety and responsibility, mitigating risks before they turn tragic. Additionally, moving the lines back to the section between sidewalks and streets helps maintain the integrity of our personal properties.

It's essential that companies like Xfinity take into consideration the welfare of the communities they serve. Burying lines in safer locations is not just an operational choice; it’s a commitment to the people who live around it, ensuring incidents like those from the past two days do not become a norm.

We need to urge Xfinity to immediately halt current installations, assess their procedures, and work towards moving the fiber lines back to the grassy separators where risk to major gas lines and residents is minimized. By signing this petition, you're pushing for a safer Carnes Crossroads where our homes and families are not living under the constant threat of avoidable accidents.

Please sign this petition now and help us ensure the safety of Carnes Crossroads residents, so we can continue to live without fear of future gas line incidents.
