The Issue

The vast majority of children's clothing sold at major retailers like Walmart, Target, and Carter’s contains harmful chemicals and synthetic fibers, such as polyester, that can pose significant health risks to our children. Parents across America are becoming increasingly concerned about the exposure of their young ones to toxins that can contribute to a myriad of health issues, from skin irritations to more serious conditions through prolonged exposure.

Polyester, a type of plastic, is widely used in the production of kids’ clothing due to its affordability and durability. However, polyester is derived from petroleum, and studies have shown that it can release dangerous chemicals such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air, especially when heated or worn for long periods. The presence of toxins in these fibers can lead to respiratory problems and allergic reactions among sensitive young children.

Furthermore, the production and disposal of polyester are detrimental to the environment, contributing to pollution and the growing issue of microplastics contaminating our ecosystems. As responsible corporations, Walmart, Target, and Carter’s have the power and ethical obligation to make changes that promote the health of children and the planet.

We urge these retail giants to commit to reducing, and ultimately eliminating, the use of polyester in their children's clothing lines. Instead, there are numerous alternatives available, such as organic cotton, linen, and other sustainable materials that are both safer for children and less environmentally damaging.

Taking action towards offering toxin-free and eco-friendly clothing is not only a step toward eradicating a health risk but also aligns with the increasing demand from consumers for transparency and responsibility in the products they choose for their families. By signing this petition, you are supporting a movement towards healthier, sustainable choices in the apparel industry, advocating for the well-being of our children, and endorsing a greener planet.

Join us in calling for change. Let's hold these companies accountable and demand safe, sustainable options in children's fashion. Please sign this petition to voice your concern and urge Walmart, Target, and Carter’s to commit to a toxin-free future for our kids.
