Demand visa corrections for GCU graduates
The Issue
I and several fellow graduates from Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) are facing an unjust predicament due to an error made by the university's visa team. We applied for the Post Study Work (PSW) visa, a crucial step for all international students who wish to gain valuable work experience in the UK after completing their studies. However, due to the incorrect dates provided by the university's visa team to the Home Office, our visa applications have been refused.
This is not an isolated case. Many students from GCU have had their futures derailed because of this avoidable error. We worked hard to earn our degrees, and the PSW visa is intended to be a bridge that helps us transform our academic accomplishments into professional success. Instead, we find ourselves grappling with misinformation and needless bureaucratic hurdles.
This mistake directly contradicts the promises made by the UK government to support international students and retain global talent. In 2021, the Graduate Route visa scheme was introduced to make the UK an attractive destination for study and work. If universities like GCU cannot provide accurate information to the Home Office, the very purpose of this scheme is undermined.
We urge GCU to take responsibility for their actions and collaborate with the Home Office to rectify these application issues immediately. Affected students should not be penalized for the university's administrative oversight. We request the Home Office to reconsider our applications and provide a streamlined process to address such errors, ensuring no further delays in our career journeys.
Let's hold GCU accountable and push for fair treatment for all international students. Please lend your voice to our cause by signing this petition. Together, we can urge the authorities to correct these mistakes and let us move forward with our lives and careers as intended.
