Demand US Federal Government to Prioritize Domestic Aid Over Foreign Aid

The Issue

As deeply concerned citizens of the United States, we want to express our growing frustration about the allocation of our hard-earned taxpayer money abroad, instead of dealing with pressing issues within our own borders. We have seen our government promise or appropriate billions of dollars to foreign countries, whilst overlooking the pressing struggles faced by American citizens. We implore the government - our government - to focus on putting Americans first.

In 2019, the U.S. government spent about 1.3 percent of its federal budget, or $39.2 billion, on foreign aid, while many Americans suffered from insufficient social services (Congressional Research Service). This is indicative of misplaced priorities, lacking focus on domestic issues such as poverty, affordable healthcare and education, and infrastructure development.

It is time to uphold the principle that the government works for its people. It should thus ensure that monetary aid, grants, programs, and other financial resources are primarily directed towards serving American citizens, rather than being given to foreign countries or non-citizens. We strongly urge the federal government to redirect its focus and reassess its expenditure, putting the needs of American citizens before any foreign commitments - whether present or future.

Sign this petition and call for an immediate halt on any non-domestic financial aid and start demanding that our tax dollars are spent directly benefitting the citizens they represent.
