The Issue

In our bustling community, parents and children face daily challenges simply trying to safely reach the local school. The roads leading to the school have become treacherous pathways, marred with potholes and irregular surfaces. They not only pose serious safety risks for walking students, parents, and grandparents during school events but also cause significant damage to vehicles. My own car has needed repair from "new kinder pickup area" that is not fit for vehicles coming and going, then the front pickup line coming and going or any other needed reasons. These roads are not fit for 9 months of school traffic.

Despite the frequent temporary fillings, the heavy traffic routinely wears them away within a few weeks. This cycle of short-term fixes must end. Alice ISD recognized for its dedication to the welfare of its students, staff, and community, has yet to ensure safe transportation routes. Current conditions endanger our daily commute and school events, requiring urgent attention and long-lasting solutions.

It is imperative that we, as a community, call for immediate and comprehensive road repair for all school roads within our district. As inspected most of the school roads are not bad but soon will need repair vs Schallert Elementary whereas Jim Wells Dr entering into the drive in to the front of the school is in desperate need of repair. Along side the four-way stop off Jim Wells Dr and Lantana Dr also needs permanent repair instead of the patch that is now there. Rather than relying on temporary measures, we demand a strategic approach to infrastructure improvement. Roads should be resurfaced with durable materials capable of withstanding high traffic loads, especially during peak school hours.

We propose the formation of a dedicated committee to oversee the road maintenance projects who can advocate for state and county funding to secure necessary resources. Transparent communication and regular updates on project progress will ensure community trust and involvement. As many fundraisers the school promotes we would like to see them for our city. Many residents with the option to donate towards our cities repair would insure a united community who values our town and takes pride investing into much needed projects.

Please, for the safety of our children and the integrity of our vehicles, join us in signing this petition. Each signature brings us closer to roads that are safe, resilient, and appropriate for our community's needs. Let's make our voices heard and achieve the change our schools and community deserve.
