The Petition Goal
We, the undersigned, call for an immediate, comprehensive overhaul of the operational procedures, training protocols, and oversight mechanisms within The Ohio Department of Children and Youth, DCFS of Ohio, and anyone overseeing the welfare of a child at a state or county level. The current system frequently fails to balance the critical need for child safety with the fundamental rights and emotional well-being of families, with the most recent statewide event being a young 7 year old boy William Ellis of Cincinnati(Oakley), Ohio. Systemic flaws lead to prolonged trauma, bureaucratic delays, and a severe lack of transparency. Reform is required to protect our community's most vulnerable children and ensure justice for families. One of the offenders of this boys demise was a previous violent criminal who assaulted someone in a grocery store parking lot only months prior.
Key Demands for Reform
Mandatory Independent Oversight: Establish an autonomous, third-party review board to investigate reports of caseworker misconduct, systemic bias, and administrative abuse of power, and hold the lack of accountability and actions responsible.
Evidence-Based Interventions: Restrict agencies from submitting severe allegations to family courts unless they are supported by verifiable, documented evidence, minimizing unwarranted trauma. Stop allowing anonymous abuse reporting as this causes harassment of innocent families.
Advanced Caseworker Training: Mandate ongoing, comprehensive training focused on family preservation, cultural competency, and trauma-informed investigation practices every month, with mandatory mental health evaluations and drug screens for employees every 3 months.
