I am a tenant living in an apartment complex in Augusta, GA, and like many others, I have found myself surviving in substandard living conditions. During a blistering heatwave, I went without air conditioning for over two weeks. Countless calls for maintenance support fell onto unresponsive ears. It was only after reaching out to my district commissioner and scheduling an appointment with a code enforcement inspector that the issue got rectified.

Unfortunately, my ordeal is not an isolated incident. There have been similar reports from fellow tenants about a lack of air conditioning, non-functioning appliances, exorbitant electric bills, plumbing issues, and more. These are not the conditions that anyone should be living in, especially when we are required to pay our rents promptly and in full.

There is a prevalent belief amongst us, the tenants, that the apartments may not be properly inspected. We find it completely unacceptable that we are expected to persist in these conditions without any effective solution or help from the management.

Since numerous appeals to the complex's management have gone largely unnoticed or inadequately addressed, it is clear that our calls for help need a larger platform, and that's why this petition is of utmost importance. We ask that the owners of the apartment complex hire professional and competent employees, ensure a reasonable timeline for maintenance requests, and guarantee a safe and livable environment for the apartment complex. It is their responsibility, and it is our right as tenants.

We believe that anyone who rents an apartment deserves to live in a safe, comfortable environment, regardless of where they are located. We are calling for immediate action to ensure that everyone in our community has a home that is liveable and treated with the respect they deserve.
