Demand U.S. Media to Stop Normalizing Donald Trump's Threat to Democracy

The Issue

Petition to End Normalization of Donald Trump
We, the undersigned, call upon the US media to cease normalizing former President Donald Trump. It is our belief that treating him like any other standard candidate undermines the gravity of his actions and threatens the very fabric of our democracy. Here are the key points we wish to emphasize:

Normalization of Trump:

Recent news reports have treated Trump as if he were an ordinary political figure, downplaying the extraordinary nature of his presidency. This normalization fails to acknowledge the harm caused by his actions and rhetoric.
The media must recognize that Trump’s behavior during his first term was far from typical. His disregard for established norms, laws, and procedures demands critical scrutiny rather than normalization.

You don’t need to dig too deeply to find evidence of this man’s corrupt thinking. Trump’s own words reveal his disregard for constitutional norms: “I have an Article II, where I have the right to do whatever I want.”
“The Constitution is what I say it is.”
“I alone can fix it.”

And just this past week, he shared an article in which the author referred to Trump as “sent by God—God’s chosen one.”

During his presidency, Trump faced multiple legal challenges including investigations into Russian interference, hush money payments, and tax returns.
His social media posts were often inflammatory, bullying opponents, spreading misinformation, and attacking journalists. Since leaving office, his behavior in this regard has only gotten worse.

Trump has attacked the judges and prosecutors in several of his criminal and civil cases, and recently, he attacked Judge Juan Merchan’s daughter on Truth Social, claiming she used a photo of him behind bars as her profile picture. Despite the account being debunked, Trump’s surrogates continue to perpetuate claims that the entire family is partisan against him.

Nearly every day, Trump takes to social media or a friendly news program and delivers more rants filled with lies and barely veiled threats. The media must scrutinize his statements and report on them accurately. Such behavior from a presidential candidate is far from “normal”, and the media is responsible for promoting the truth.

We Urge:
Media Accountability: Reporters and outlets must avoid normalizing Trump’s actions and rhetoric.
Public Awareness: Educate the public about the exceptional nature of Trump’s presidency.
Vigilance: Remain vigilant against any attempts to erode democratic institutions.

We cannot stand by while our democracy is threatened from within. We demand that reporters treat Donald Trump like the threat he is instead of normalizing him for political convenience or ratings gain.

Please sign this petition if you believe it's time for U.S media outlets take their responsibility seriously. They must stop normalizing Trump and other obvious threats against our democracy. Every single one of us has something to lose if Trump is elected.
