As students of Trent University, we find ourselves in a predicament. Our tuition fees potentially go towards supporting American firms. This is contradictory to our principles and unacceptable in the context of the recent threats from the Trump administration towards Canada. 

Every dollar spent on American products or services is, by extension, a show of support to the policies of a government that threatens our nation as well as the rights of American citizens. 

We believe that our institution should display resilience and take a stand by divesting from any American products or services. By doing so, Trent will impart a strong statement of our values, and confirm we do not condone threats or hostilities towards our home nation and human rights.

If done, Trent University will be one among few institutions to carry the banner of integrity and independence in these challenging times. This is our call to you, to uphold our values and promises of a university that always puts the interests and principles of its students first.
