The Issue

As a long-time resident of our community, I have seen firsthand how our neighborhood has been overlooked for many essential needs. From the lack of sidewalks to inadequate law enforcement, to deficiencies in educational resources, our community has struggled to get the attention it deserves. Now, we are facing another significant blow – the sudden closure of Splashland, a local community pool beloved by children and families alike.

Splashland has been a cherished place where children have spent countless summer days learning, playing, and creating memories. It is more than just a pool; it is a vital part of our community fabric, providing a safe environment for kids and families to gather and enjoy. Yet, without any prior notification, a public meeting, or a vote, the Hyland Hills recreational community has decided to close this essential space.

This decision was made without transparency or consideration of the community's needs and preferences. We demand to know why Splashland is being shut down without due process. Our community deserves respect and involvement in decisions that profoundly impact our lives and the well-being of our children.

With the closure of Splashland, our children are losing a safe and beneficial summer activity. Additionally, this action raises concerns about neglect of our community’s needs amid growing economic development in the area, which promises better facilities yet fails to deliver equitable opportunities and resources for underprivileged families.

We urge Hyland Hills Recreational Committee and local government leaders to hold an open dialogue with community members. We deserve clear answers, an explanation of the reasons behind the sudden decision, and a commitment to finding an amiable solution that benefits everyone.

By signing this petition, you join in our call for transparency, community involvement, and fair access to recreational amenities for all our children and residents. Let's ensure that our voices are heard and that no neighborhood is left behind in the pursuit of equitable development and community resources.
