Demand Transparency on Robert Taylor's Termination

Demand Transparency on Robert Taylor's Termination
The Issue
Mr. Robert Taylor is an elected and respected member of the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Education, representing District 1, and until recently served as the MPH Instructor and Program Coordinator at Meharry Medical College. Over the years, Mr. Taylor has become an essential figure within the School of Global Health, particularly among Master of Public Health students. His contributions to Meharry extend far beyond the classroom. He has been a trusted mentor, a key technological resource for faculty, and a passionate advocate for students.
For many of us, especially second-year students, Mr. Taylor’s dedication, approachability, and unwavering support were central to our decision to attend Meharry. His impact on our academic experience is profound and, for many, irreplaceable.
It is with deep concern and disappointment that we recently learned of Mr. Taylor’s abrupt termination. This decision threatens to disrupt the academic progress of numerous students and dismantles a vital support structure that has been thoughtfully and intentionally built over time. Even more troubling is the lack of transparency surrounding this decision, which has left the student body confused, unsettled, and seeking answers.
We respectfully call on the leadership of the School of Global Health to provide a clear and transparent explanation for Mr. Taylor’s termination. It is imperative that the voices of students, the very individuals Mr. Taylor has so diligently served, are heard and considered in this moment. His role in academic support, student engagement, and institutional trust cannot be overstated.
Transparency in this matter is essential to restoring student confidence and upholding the integrity of Meharry’s educational environment. We urge the administration to engage openly with the student body and demonstrate the values of accountability, fairness, and respect that Meharry proudly stands for.
Please sign this petition to demand answers, support our educators, and ensure that decisions impacting students and faculty are made with integrity and transparency. Together, we can uphold the standard of excellence and justice that our academic community deserves.
