Demand Transparency in Rio Grande Valley Data Center Developments

Demand Transparency in Rio Grande Valley Data Center Developments
The Issue
The residents of the Rio Grande Valley are not speaking from hypotheticals. Many of us have already experienced recurring flooding, unexpected power outages, and ongoing concerns about water and infrastructure. These challenges reflect real strain on our current systems, and our region now faces potential added pressure from proposed data center developments.
As a community, we have the right to be informed and involved in decisions that impact our daily lives. The potential effects on water resources, energy infrastructure, and environmental conditions cannot be overlooked or confined to executive sessions. These conversations must be brought into the public.
For The People Alliance, alongside concerned residents of the Rio Grande Valley, is calling for full transparency, public disclosure, and meaningful community input. These discussions must be placed on public agendas and addressed openly.
We are not against progress, we are for responsible, informed progress that protects our communities.
By signing this petition, you are urging local leaders across the Rio Grande Valley to commit to transparency and public engagement before any data center decisions are made.
It is our duty to demand more detail, context, and transparency regarding anything going on in our towns.
Your local representatives have taken trips to visit AI data centers. Some without the full attendance of the other members of the city commission.
Which to that I say, a city divided cannot stand.
This is what we know so far about a proposed data center they are trying to develop in Harlingen, Texas:
I. Project Overview
Primary Developer: Eneus Energy (UK-based).
Scale: Proposed 1,785–1,800 acres of land, with a total power capacity of 2 Gigawatts (GW).
Confirmed Activity: Ramiro Aleman, the County’s EDC Director, confirmed his office has been in discussions with an unnamed business interest regarding this site.
Timeline: A company by the name of Eneus Energy holds a purchase-option contract for the land active until July 2026. Which on their website lists a data center site in Harlingen, Texas as "land banked".
They are also trying to build some in McAllen, Edinburg, and Brownsville...
