The Issue

Across New Brunswick, residents are opening their NB Power bills feeling shocked, confused, and fearful. With the 9.7% rate increase in April of 2025 and a proposed increase of 4.75% in April of 2026, one in four New Brunswick families experience energy poverty, spending more than 10% of their income on energy costs (Hull, 2025).

These sudden, significant, and unexplainable increases create further financial instability during a time when the cost of living is already unaffordable. Electricity is not a luxury, it is essential for heat, food safety, medical devices, and daily living, yet many are forced to make the impossible choice between paying rent, feeding their family, and staying warm.

NB Power’s lack of communication creates distrust among New Brunswicker’s and the organizations and governments there to serve us. Making customers question company operations and where this additional revenue is being allocated. Public utilities exist to serve the public and therefore, must operate with transparency and accountability when providing essential services.

We ask that NB Power provide clear and timely communication justifying current rate increases. We ask for a clear report of where this additional revenue is being allocated. Most importantly, we ask for community voices and the welfare of New Brunswick residents to be strongly considered in future rate change decisions.

We are not asking for unreasonable promises. We are asking for transparency, fairness, and accountability. Sign this petition to demand clarity from NB Power and protect essential services for all New Brunswick residents.
