Truth and fairness are two values that every hard-working individual expects when dealing with utility companies. I, a single homeowner struggling to make ends meet in Suffield, CT, have always done my part to contribute to public benefit by paying my taxes, and I believe it's time Eversource and UI upheld their end of the deal. Despite promises of a rate decrease effective July 2024, our energy bills have not decreased. In fact, they have shockingly escalated due to an inexplicable hike in public benefit.

This surge in prices is not just a singular issue-it affects us all in our community where many struggle to pay their bills amidst rising costs of living and rampant inflation. It is unjust for us, the consumers, to bear the burden of an already expensive energy bill that is further augmented under dubious terms by Eversource and UI.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), as of 2021, the average monthly residential electric bill in Connecticut has been one of the highest nationwide. The increased charges from Eversource and UI amplify this stress on our households.

There is a demand for truth, for transparency, and for fair billing in CT. We need Eversource and UI to honor their commitment to a rate decrease and to publicly explain these ongoing surges in our energy bills. Economic hardships should not be exacerbated by the unchecked actions of giant utility companies.
