Demand Transparency and Accountability for Iloilo Road Projects

Demand Transparency and Accountability for Iloilo Road Projects
The Issue
In Iloilo, residents like me face daily struggles due to incomplete and delayed road projects. We are all too familiar with the traffic congestion on unfinished roads, the dangers posed by unsafe conditions, and the preventable flooding that persists during the rainy season. These issues should have been addressed by now through completed infrastructure projects. It's personal because my family and neighbors endure this situation daily, and I wholeheartedly believe that our taxes should be utilized effectively to ensure timely project completion.
We are calling upon the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Iloilo Provincial Government to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of road and flood-control projects. One major step towards this is by making quarterly progress reports publicly available, ensuring that the citizens of Iloilo are kept informed about the status and integrity of these essential projects. This not only holds the agencies accountable but also empowers the community to engage in dialogues about construction operations affecting their daily lives.
Additionally, it's crucial to implement penalties for any delays in project implementation. Such measures will act as significant deterrents against complacency and will push for diligent adherence to deadlines. Projects that are stalled should be prioritized so that they can be completed efficiently and effectively. Specifically, we urge the completion of all pending road and flood control projects by the year 2026. This clear timeframe is not just a demand but a necessary goal to ensure the betterment of our community's quality of life.
It's imperative that our local government upholds its duty to the people by fostering improvements that facilitate safer, more reliable infrastructure. These enhancements are essential not only for our daily commutes but also for the economic progress of Iloilo, as well-maintained infrastructure attracts investment and growth.
Sign this petition to demand the transparency, accountability, and timely completion of road and flood control projects in Iloilo, ensuring a safer and more prosperous future for all residents.
