Demand Transparency, Accountability, and Improved Governance in Kenya

The Issue

We, the undersigned citizens of Kenya, are deeply concerned about the persistent challenges our country faces due to poor governance and lack of accountability by the current administration. The recent surge in protests, led primarily by our courageous Generation Z, underscores the urgent need to address these critical issues by August 31st 2024. Therefore, we make the following demands:

1. **Comprehensive Financial Transparency**: We demand a full and transparent financial report from the President, Members of Parliament, Cabinet Ministers, Governors, and Principal Secretaries. This report should detail all finances allocated for development projects, including an itemized list of expenditures and outcomes.

2. **Financial Report for the Last Two Years**: To assess the current state of our nation’s finances, we demand a comprehensive financial report covering the last two years. This report should be detailed down to the 47 counties, providing transparency on revenue collection, allocation, expenditure, and the fiscal health of each county.

3. **IMF Loan Accountability**: We call for an itemized report on the 136 billion KES borrowed from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). This report should clearly indicate how the funds were utilized, specifying the projects funded, the amounts disbursed, and the progress or completion status of these projects.

4. **Protection of Natural Resources**: We demand an immediate halt to the exploitation of Kenya’s natural resources, including our mines and minerals, by foreign entities. There must be a transparent audit of all agreements and contracts with foreign authorities to ensure that the benefits derived from these resources serve the interests of Kenyans.

5. **Curbing Corruption**: Corruption continues to undermine our society, with an estimated 20% of Kenya's GDP lost annually to corrupt practices (OECD). We demand stringent anti-corruption measures, including the prosecution of those involved in corrupt activities, regardless of their position.

6. **Job Creation and Economic Development**: Kenya's democracy should prioritize creating jobs within our borders rather than exporting our hardworking citizens abroad. We demand policies and initiatives that foster job creation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth, ensuring that our youth have opportunities to build a stable future in their homeland.

7. **Youth Rights and Protection**: The ongoing injustice against the youth, including unwarranted arrests, police brutality, and systemic discrimination, must be addressed immediately. We call for the establishment of a youth rights commission to investigate and protect the rights of young Kenyans, ensuring their voices are heard and their futures safeguarded.

8. **Fair Taxation Policies**: The current steep taxation on land rates and other essential services is an unsustainable burden on Kenyans. We demand a review of the tax policies to ensure they are fair, just, and do not disproportionately affect middle and lower-income citizens.

9. **Education and Healthcare Reforms**: The high cost of education and the mismanagement of our healthcare system are significant barriers to our children’s futures. We demand increased funding for education and healthcare, improved infrastructure, and better management to ensure that every Kenyan has access to quality services.

10. **Public Engagement and Transparency**: We demand that the Kenyan government proactively engage the public in decision-making processes, promote transparency in all governmental operations, and establish mechanisms for citizens to hold their leaders accountable. This includes regular public consultations, transparent reporting, and the creation of platforms for citizen participation.

11. **Assessment of Foreign Entities Operating in Kenya**: We call for detailed statistics on all foreign entities doing business in Kenya. This should include an assessment of their business activities, compliance with Kenyan tax laws, the impact of their operations on the local economy, and adherence to environmental and labor regulations. We also demand transparency in the processes used to grant business licenses to these entities, ensuring they do not undermine local businesses or exploit Kenyan resources without fair compensation.

We, the citizens of Kenya, urge our government to act decisively and responsibly in addressing these demands. Through collective action and accountability, we can build a better future for our country, free from corruption, injustice, and exploitation.

**Sign this petition to demand the accountability, transparency, and good governance that every Kenyan deserves. Together, we can make a difference.**
