For decades, the Limboo and Tamang communities in Sikkim have tirelessly campaigned for adequate political representation in the State Legislative Assembly. We, the citizens, are passionate about upholding the principles of democracy and social justice, and believe it's high time their voices are heard. The absence of reserved seats for these communities is not merely an oversight—it’s a significant lapse in ensuring fair and just governance for all ethnic groups in Sikkim.

The Limboo and Tamang people have contributed immensely to the cultural, social, and economic fabric of Sikkim. Yet, despite their substantial numbers and the emphatic public support, the promise of political representation remains unfulfilled. According to the Census of 2011, these communities together form a considerable portion of the state's demographic, yet they still lack the legislative voice that is essential for addressing their unique social and economic challenges.

In 2002, the Constitution of India was amended to include the Limboo and Tamang as Scheduled Tribes. This was a landmark decision aimed at acknowledging and correcting historical injustices. However, legislative measures in Sikkim have lagged behind, leaving these communities in a state of limbo. There have been numerous assurances from successive governments, but the wait for practical action continues to this day.

This petition is a call to the Government of Sikkim, especially to the Hon'ble Chief Minister and the Hon'ble Members of the Legislative Assembly, to stand by their commitment to social justice. We urge you to introduce the Limboo–Tamang Seat Reservation  by  Winter Session 2026, a move that will rightfully acknowledge their place in our political system.

To ensure transparency and fairness, we propose establishing a joint committee comprising members of both the communities in question, legal experts, and lawmakers. This committee would be tasked with evaluating the Bill's formulation and its effective implementation.

This Bill will not only fulfill a long-standing commitment but also set a precedent for how ethnic diversity can be respected and represented in governance structures. Introducing and passing this bill is a step towards a future where all communities are equitably represented and involved in the decision-making process of Sikkim.
