Demand the US Senate to Vote NOW on H.R. 5863 Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2023

The Issue

We demand the Senate Finance Committee votes this November on H.R. 5863 Federal Disaster Tax Relief Bill of 2023 (S.3678). Stop taxing American Disaster Survivors NOW! This is immoral, unjust and un-American.

Since 2019, there have been 430 Federal Major Disasters with thousands dead and millions suffering losses of trillions of dollars in damages across all 50 states. This affects every state in the USA. Just a few weeks ago, many members of the Senate sent thoughts and prayers on social media to the victims and survivors of Hurricanes Helene and Milton that affected millions of Americans in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Those millions of survivors will start the long, arduous process of recovery and relief. It will take months and for some, years to navigate the financial strains of survival and recovery and when they finally receive relief.. the IRS will tax their recovery payments as income up to 37%. THIS IS MORALLY REPREHENSIBLE.

We don't need your thoughts and prayers. We need you to take action. Stop playing political games and be American leaders and do everything you possibly can to help Federal Disaster Survivors across our country. For once, put country over party and DO THE RIGHT THING! The Survivors of Maui Wildfires, California, Wildfires, Oregon Wildfires, Florida Hurricanes, Georgia Hurricanes, Tennessee Tornadoes, Ohio Train Derailment, and Pennsylvania Floods NEED YOUR HELP NOW. Please do the right thing and vote on this bill in November.
