The Issue

Help us get this terrible article taken down!!

The Telegraph journalist Natasha Leake intentionally deceived several chronic illness online influencers into conducting an interview with her under the guise that she supported their pages and wanted to spread awareness.

Instead, she wrote a defaming article, painting chronically ill people as frauds who are using social media to monetize their illness. The article implies that we are to blame for the decrease in employment because we are “normalizing worklessness”.

In reality, chronic illness influencers use their limited time and energy to spread awareness and encourage others who have unfortunately developed chronic illnesses and disabilities. Many of us also have jobs, and those who don’t are unable to work due to the debilitating symptoms and pain they live with on a constant basis. The author’s blatant attack towards the most vulnerable members of society is unacceptable, and what’s worse is she used the names and images of the influencers to “expose” them, which is an intentional defamation towards people who have done nothing wrong. This is a direct attack on a community of sick people, the lowest form of bullying.

We demand that this article be taken down from all platforms (Telegraph, MSN, etc) and the author held accountable for this fraudulent journalism and deceptive behavior. We demand that the telegraph issue an apology and refrain from ever publishing a similar article about “sickfluencers” again.
