Demand the Supreme Court to Respect and Uphold the Ruling of Obergefell v. Hodges

Demand the Supreme Court to Respect and Uphold the Ruling of Obergefell v. Hodges
The Issue
On the 2nd day of the 2025 legislative session, Idaho Rep. Heather Scott, R-Blanchard, proposed a joint memorial to reject the U.S. Supreme Court 2015 decision that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide, specifically Obergefell v. Hodges.
This ruling was a milestone in our history, ensuring the right to marry for all, irrespective of gender or sexual orientation, across our nation. The Supreme Court's modern stance on marriage confirms that it is an institution of two individuals committing to each other, not a union solely defined by biological gender. It dismantled years of prejudice and discrimination, allowing love to triumph lawfully.
Thus, the resolution presented by Rep. Scott isn't just an affront to the LGBT+ community in Idaho but a denial of the fundamental rights assured by the Supreme Court. According to the Williams Institute in 2016, there were approximately 10,450 same-sex couples living in Idaho - all whom, today, stand at risk of having their equal status questioned under law.
We plead for support in our call for Idaho's government and the Supreme Court to respect and uphold the ruling of Obergefell v. Hodges. Sign this petition to protect love, equality, and the law of the land.
