Demand The Sun Newspaper to Apologize for Disrespectful Description of a Deceased Child

The Issue

This petition is deeply personal to me and many others who have been appalled by the disrespectful language used by The Sun newspaper in describing a child tragically killed. When two teenagers were killed, in Nottingham by a black man the victims were respectfully referred to in full detail. However, when it came to a black boy's death, killed by a white man he was relegated to a small column no name and dismissively labeled as 'a sword lad'. This is not only disgraceful but also indicative of an underlying racial bias. Any child killed of  what ever colour is a tragedy but why treat two with full respect and the other with disrespect they are both children only defined by colour but yet treated so differently

The media has an immense influence on public perception and should therefore uphold standards of respect and equality in their reporting. According to research from Cardiff University, British newspapers are twice as likely to portray people of color negatively compared with white individuals (Cardiff University Report 2016). This incident with The Sun newspaper is another glaring example of this systemic issue.

We demand that The Sun newspaper issues a public apology for their disrespectful description of the deceased child. Furthermore, we call upon them to review their editorial policies ensuring fair representation and respectful language towards all victims regardless of race or ethnicity.

Please join us in standing against racial bias in media reporting by signing this petition.
