I am writing this petition to express my deep concern and dissatisfaction with the conduct of Councillor Philipa Veitch, a Greens representative on the Randwick Local Government. For the past two years, Councillor Veitch has actively posted on social media and organized protests against the war in Gaza. While activism and personal convictions are essential in any democratic society, I believe that her actions do not fall within her mandate as a local Councillor and have not represented the broad interests of our community.

The primary role of a local government official is to focus on matters that directly affect the constituents of their respective localities. However, Councillor Veitch's focus seems to have shifted predominantly towards international issues that, while important, do not pertain to her responsibilities. This trend has alienated many local residents who feel their voices and concerns relating to local governance issues—such as community safety, education, local development, and infrastructure—are being overshadowed.

Furthermore, Councillor Veitch's actions highlight a lack of awareness and sensitivity towards complex socio-political issues within our country. Despite her passionate stance against the war in Gaza, she has not demonstrated a willingness to attend anti-Semitism movies or conferences aimed at educating herself about the impacts of anti-Semitism. This imbalance in her activities raises questions about her ability to represent all segments of our diverse community fairly and impartially.

It is crucial for a Councillor to engage with and educate themselves on a variety of significant issues, ensuring they are representing the entire community. Failure to do so not only undermines the trust placed in our elected officials but also risks fostering division rather than cohesion within our community.

For these reasons, I call for the resignation of Councillor Philipa Veitch. Her actions have diverted focus from the pressing needs of Randwick residents, and it is time for a representative who prioritizes local issues and inclusivity.
