Demand the Resignation of LA28 Chair Casey Wasserman and an Independent Investigation

Demand the Resignation of LA28 Chair Casey Wasserman and an Independent Investigation
The Issue
The power of wealthy and well-connected individuals must never outweigh the suffering of victims. Los Angeles has reached a breaking point.
Casey Wasserman is the chair of LA28, the private organizing committee responsible for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games. Recently released Epstein-related government records show email communications from 2003 between Wasserman and Ghislaine Maxwell. These disclosures have led multiple Los Angeles elected officials to call for his resignation, citing the damage this association causes to public trust and the integrity of the Games.
Ghislaine Maxwell is a convicted sex trafficker. She was Jeffrey Epstein’s longtime associate and was found guilty in federal court for crimes connected to the trafficking and grooming of underage girls. While Epstein’s crimes became widely known to the public in 2008 and 2009, court records and victim testimony make clear that the abuse and trafficking were occurring for many years before that. By the early 2000s, Maxwell was already deeply involved in Epstein’s network.
This context matters. Proximity to individuals who were actively engaged in the exploitation of minors is not a minor footnote. It demands scrutiny, especially when the individual involved holds immense public-facing power.
In addition to the Epstein and Maxwell associations, Wasserman has previously faced public allegations involving affairs with subordinates and staff. While not criminal charges, these reports raise further questions about judgment, power dynamics, and workplace ethics within organizations he leads.
The Olympic Games are a global event built on ideals of respect, dignity, and fairness. They are an event that prominently features women and girls as athletes, workers, volunteers, and spectators. Leadership tied to unresolved ethical concerns, patterns of poor judgment, and close relationships with known perpetrators of sexual exploitation undermines those values.
Los Angeles should not be asked to look the other way. Silence and deference to power are exactly how abuse networks survive.
We are not demanding conclusions. We are demanding accountability.
Our demands are as follows:
1. The immediate resignation of Casey Wasserman as chair of LA28.
2. The initiation of a fully independent investigation conducted by a credible outside ethics body with no ties to LA28 leadership.
3. The public release of the investigation’s findings, including a review of any communications, relationships, travel, or business dealings between LA28 leadership and Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, or individuals within their network.
4. The adoption of enforceable ethics, transparency, and safeguarding standards for LA28 leadership going forward.
Power is not more important than victims. Wealth is not more important than accountability. The women and girls who will participate in and attend the 2028 Olympic Games deserve leadership that prioritizes safety, transparency, and trust.
