Demand the Resignation of Executive Director Andre Brown for his Leadership Failures at CUNY Public Safety Department

The Issue

This petition holds personal significance for us, deeply involved with the CUNY Public Safety Department. Andre Brown, our Executive Director, has single-handedly reversed the progress made since December 28th, 1991. Today, our department is steeped in a similar situation as it was back then - untrained, unvetted, and unprofessional contract security guards hold sway.

Brown's tenure has been synonymous with failure to sustain staffing levels, thereby forcing the ill-considered move to privatize the department. This has meant escalating dependence on contract security officers, which is a diluted solution to our safety concerns. This direction has not only put the safety of CUNY Public Safety Officers at severe risk but also that of our valued CUNY faculty, staff, and students.

To illustrate the extent of the problem, the CUNY Public Safety Department SAFE team made up of highly trained NYS Peace Officers is nearly extinct under Brown's "leadership".  Due to his failed "strategic plan", the newly dubbed "Civilian SAFE Team" made up of private contract security guards has now become the Universities savior during riots and building takeovers.

Our safety and security should not be compromised due to mismanagement and poor leadership. We need experienced, professional law enforcement officers who are adequately trained to protect our University.

Join us as we demand that Andre Brown resign immediately, owning up to his failures. By doing so, we can pave the way for leadership that respects the core importance of maintaining a well-staffed and professional Public Safety Department at CUNY. Sign this petition and let's reclaim our department and make the safety and security of CUNYs 25 campuses a priority again.
