Demand the Replacement of Gerry as Principal at Nuriootpa High School
The issue
Ending the violence & BULLYING at NURIOOTPA HIGH SCHOOL
I am a concerned parent whose child (yr 8) was brutally assaulted by another student at Nuriootpa High School (yr 8). My son was stomped on his head, an incident that was filmed and only came to my attention two days later. When I contacted the school, they were completely unaware of this horrifying event. My son had come home saying he'd been punched but couldn't remember much - now we know why.
To make matters worse, upon showing Gerry, the current principal of the school, the video evidence of this assault on my child, there was no immediate action taken against the perpetrator who even had a weapon in his bag. Where were the teacher's on duty? There are not enough teachers for the amount of students at NHS, particularly with the increasing incidents of violence, and they are struggling. Gerry does not support the staff, and with her lack of control of the students, stress is evidently taking its toll. Even my son has commented on the physical appearance of certain teachers, noticing a decline.
This is not just about my son's safety; it's about every student's right to feel safe in their learning environment. It is unacceptable that such violence can occur without any knowledge or intervention from those in charge.
According to data from Australia’s National Centre Against Bullying (NCAB), one in four students between years 4 and 9 are bullied every few weeks or more often. This statistic is alarming and highlights how prevalent bullying is within our schools.
We need a principal who will take immediate action when incidents like these occur and ensure that all students feel safe while they are under their care at Nuriootpa High School.
Please sign this petition demanding for Gerry's replacement with someone capable of ensuring our children's safety and well-being while they are at school.
