The Issue

I am writing this petition from a deeply personal place, as a person touched by the issue of suicide awareness and bullying. A recent tragic event has brought to light the harm that can come from cyberbullying, one that occurred on the Georgia Gazette Facebook page. It's a heartbreaking reality that the comments on this page contributed to a recent suicide. Cyberbullying is a severe issue: it affects millions of people, especially youths. A 2020 study demonstrated that victims of cyberbullying are almost twice as likely to attempt suicide (Hinduja & Patchin, 2020). This frightening statistic underscores the urgency with which we must act. It’s time that we all come together and advocate for the responsible use of social media. We urge social media platforms to take action and remove pages like this that perpetuate harm and offer a venue for hate speech and bullying. Please, sign this petition to end the destructive presence of the Georgia Gazette Facebook page and help ensure that social media platforms are used responsibly. Let’s join hands and protect each other from the monstrous effects of cyberbullying. It’s time we put an end to this for good. Please sign this petition today.
