I live and/or work in the Stanton and Pilger NE area. The areas where I live, and work are directly impacted by the proposed J-turns on the Highway 275 four-lane expansion. This change will not only disrupt our daily commute but also pose potential safety risks.

J-turns, or Restricted Crossing U-Turns (RCUTs), are designed to improve safety by reducing conflict points at intersections. However, studies have shown that they can increase driver confusion and lead to more accidents if not implemented properly (source: Federal Highway Administration). In rural areas like ours where high-speed traffic is common, these concerns become even more significant.

Furthermore, this project does not take into account the unique needs of our community. We live in an agricultural community, and it is not uncommon to have equipment crossing the highway daily as we try to avoid going down the highway, a J-turn would force this slow-moving equipment onto the highway and possibly cause a bigger safety issue than a regular intersection would.  We deserve a say in infrastructure changes that will affect us so profoundly.

The state must consider alternative solutions for managing traffic flow on Highway 275 that prioritize both efficiency and safety without causing unnecessary disruption to local residents' lives.
