This petition is born out of a deeply personal and unsettling incident. A brave Black riverboat co-captain in Montgomery, Alabama, was assaulted by a group of white individuals while he was merely trying to move their pontoon boat that was obstructing the ferry from docking at its regular space. A crowd of mostly-Black bystanders courageously rushed to his aid during this brawl.

The aftermath of this incident has been just as disturbing. Judge SAMARRIA MUNNERLYN DUNSON, presiding over the Montgomery Alabama municipal Court, has shown an alarming leniency towards these racially charged crimes. The assailants received what can only be described as a 'slap on the wrist', which is not only disheartening but also sets a dangerous precedent for future cases.

We believe that justice should be blind and fair; however, it seems clear that under Judge Dunson's jurisdiction this principle is not being upheld. This pattern raises serious questions about her ability to serve impartially and uphold justice for all citizens regardless of their race or ethnicity.

It's time we demand accountability from our judicial system and those who are entrusted with upholding it. We call upon you to join us in demanding the removal of Judge SAMARRIA MUNNERLYN DUNSON due to her inadequate handling and sentencing in racially charged cases.
