Jake Wallis Simons, currently serving as editor for the Jewish Chronicle, has taken a leading role in the targeted harassment of a British police officer which the Metropolitan Police has said left the officer "shaken by the online commentary overnight". Furthermore, he has exhibited numerous examples of racism and Islamophobia which are not only unacceptable but also damaging to the reputation and integrity of this communal newspaper. He has previously said that “much of Muslim culture is in the grip of a death cult that sacralised bloodshed. Not all, but many Muslims are brainwashed by it” and has also falsely claimed that “Palestinian Muslims launch Ramadan attack on Church of the Annunciation in Beit Jala near Bethlehem,”. These are just some examples of the long history of attrocious behavior that Jake Wallis Simons has engaged in which is frankly abhorrent and does not align with the values that should be demanded of someone editing any news outlet, let alone a newspaper primarily addressing a community that is no stranger to harassment, racism, xenophobia and intimidation. It is now unthinkable that Jake Wallis Simons could continue in such a prominent position. We believe that it is essential for media outlets to promote tolerance, respect, and fairness - values which Mr. Simons seems to disregard blatantly. We call upon those responsible at the Jewish Chronicle to take immediate action by removing Mr. Simons from his position as editor due to these serious allegations against him. This step would demonstrate their commitment towards maintaining ethical journalism standards within their organisation and send a strong message against any form of discrimination or harassment in our society today.
