Our ancestors have tirelessly fought to uphold our inherent cultural human rights for centuries. Yet, in one fell swoop, this Chief & Council - and Councillor Ian Duckworth in particular - have diminished these rights. This blatant disregard for our inherent human rights, upheld by the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), is a demonstration of incompetence at a leadership level. There is no space in our community for such paternalistic disregard of our rights to feel power over people.

The incident that sparked this petition involves a disabled Band Member who was charged with trespassing on Caldwell First Nation owned land while exercising his inherent right to fish. This act by Councillor Ian Duckworth not only disrespects our traditions but also infringes upon basic human rights recognized globally.

We cannot stand idle while such actions take place within our council. We demand immediate action against this injustice and call for the removal or resignation of Councillor Ian Duckworth from Caldwell Council.
