This petition originates from a place of deep concern and personal grievance. The wrongful conviction and subsequent death of Marcellus “Khaliifah” Williams has left wounds that demand justice. The current Missouri governor, whose responsibility it is to ensure fair and just actions within their jurisdiction, has not just notably failed to intervene in this case, but is being racially bias. which is rife with controversy and dubious claims. Williams was convicted based on disputed evidence and his tragic death is a reflection of the deep-seated issues within our criminal justice system which the governor not only ignored but perpetuated. According to the Innocence Project, at least 2.3%-5% of all US prisoners are innocent, which translates to a staggering amount of 46,000 to 100,000 people wrongfully imprisoned. Given this data, there were numerous opportunities for the governor to intervene in the Williams case, but cries for a review fell blatantly on deaf ears.
