Demand the Release of Giovanna Hernandez

The Issue

We, the undersigned, stand in strong support of Giovanna Hernandez, a beloved member of our community who is currently facing deportation after being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on August 5, 2025, in Birmingham, Alabama.

Giovanna has called the United States home since she was brought here at just 7 years old. She was raised in Alabama, graduated valedictorian of her high school class, and earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work. She now serves her community through her role at HICA, a nonprofit that advocates for immigrant families.

Gio has no criminal record. She has spent years working toward lawful permanent residency but, like many others, has faced systemic barriers and even been scammed during the process. Her detainment is not only legally questionable — it is morally wrong.

This is personal for us. Giovanna is not just a name. She is our friend, colleague, mentor, and inspiration. She represents everything we want in a citizen: integrity, compassion, hard work, and a deep love for her community. Deporting her would be a grave injustice not just to her, but to all of us who believe in fairness, opportunity, and human dignity.

We are calling on ICE, lawmakers, and decision-makers to:

  • Immediately release Giovanna Hernandez from custody
  • Halt all deportation proceedings
  • Provide a pathway for her to remain lawfully in the United States

This is a time for compassion over cruelty and justice over bureaucracy. Please sign and share this petition to help us bring Giovanna home
