As a resident of Meadowbrook, IL, I am writing with a strong concern about the sorry condition of our roads to Fort Russell Township. Over the past seven years, I've found myself replacing struts and tires more frequently than ever before due to the decrepit conditions of these roads. The existing tarmac is uneven, crumbling, in some spots not big enough for 2 vehicles to drive pat another like a two line road. The short-term solutions offered through patchwork repairs and oil and rocks only serve to exacerbate the problem.

Not only are these poor road conditions detrimental to vehicles, but they pose significant dangers to pedestrians. An instance still vivid in my memory is when a child in our neighborhood slipped on the oiled road, received a significant injury, and now carries a lasting scar or the woman hit on her bike. A situation such as this could easily happen again if nothing changes.

The maintenance strategy of laying oil and rock annually, or biannually proves to be costly. It matches the expense of laying a new road every ten years, which would provide a more durable and safer solution. The tax burden on us residents has already doubled in recent years, and yet, we are still dealing with the complications of an inadequate road infrastructure.

This mere maintenance strategy is not only impractical but is also harmful to all road users, including the elderly, disabled, our children, joggers, cyclists, and motorcyclists. It's high time our roads received a thorough and long-lasting repair. Otherwise, the expenses incurred due to vehicle repairs and the potential risk to pedestrians remains a crucial concern.

Therefore, we call upon the local authorities, Fort Russell Township to invest wisely in laying down new roads that can stand the test of time while prioritizing the safety and convenience of all road users. Our community deserves this improvement for our hard-earned tax dollars.
