Demand the Immediate Removal of Erie County Executive Brenton Davis for Abuse of Power
The Issue
I am a former county employee, specifically a juvenile counselor at Edmund L. Thomas Adolescent Center in Erie County, PA. My role included advocating for the children and adolescents in the emergency youth shelter and detention center. When I voiced my concerns about the substandard (prison) food the residents were provided, my grievance was not taken seriously. In my grievance to Brenton Davis I stressed how the inedible food product he approved, provided by Trinity Services Group, not only impacted the well-being of underprivileged youth but also burdened taxpayers.
In response to my concerns he demanded an apology and I was not taken seriously. He escalated the situation, calling me to his office without any HR representatives in attendance. My advocacy for the basic rights of children resulted in termination.
This is just one example of how Erie County Executive Brenton Davis has abused his power over the past two years. His actions have repeatedly demonstrated a disregard for our community's well-being and undermined public office integrity. Such actions include:
(1) Dismantling of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee members without just cause. (2) Using his own business, to profit from repairs done to the Erie County Prison Roof, rather than allowing local roofers to bid on project. (3) Court Ordered PFA to stay away from children + allegations of abuse from various women in the community. (4) Censoring educational reading material in Erie public libraries and discriminating against the LGBTQAI+ community. (5) Lack of transparency in attempting to turn Fairview farmland into business park without community knowledge or opinion. (6) Increased taxes, while also increasing his personal budget for items that include travel and the addition of new staff members to replace the ones he removed (currently being sued by county council over budget changes, after budget was approved). (7) Allowing a private institute to take up public space within the Blasco Library. (8) Withholding ARP funds that should have already been given to the DEI commission and homeless population. (9) Approval of inedible prison food(from Trinity Services Group) to be served to disabled, minority, and homeless kids at the county emergency youth shelter, as well as juvenile detention center. (10) Retaliation taken toward people of color, county employees, etc.
Davis' unethical practices extend beyond these incidents. There are objective instances where he has misappropriated funds intended to better our community. He has also exhibited retaliatory behavior towards county employees who dare to question his decisions or stand up for what is right.
The immediate removal of Brenton Davis from office is crucial if we want to restore trust in our local government and protect those who serve our community from further retaliation!
We must hold him accountable for his actions and ensure that such abuses do not occur again in Erie County's public offices. Please sign this petition demanding Brenton Davis' immediate removal as Erie County Executive. We need approximately 80,300 signatures for County Council to initiate a recall of Brenton Davis from the position of County Executive. Through collective action and unwavering determination, We the People possess the inherent power to enact meaningful and positive change!
