The Issue

Chicago did it, so can we.

Chicago Executive Order ICE FREE ZONES

Our community in Long Beach deserves to live without fear. The activities of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have created widespread trauma, distrust, and separation, impacting all residents, irrespective of their immigration status. It's heartbreaking to witness families avoiding schools, hospitals, and public spaces simply out of fear. It's time for change—it's time to create safe spaces for everyone to thrive without the constant threat of ICE presence.

The City of Long Beach has an opportunity to lead by example and affirm its commitment to human rights and community solidarity. Establishing ICE-free zones on both city-owned and private property can help mend the fabric of our community, restoring safety, unity, and trust. These designated areas will allow residents to access essential services and participate fully in community life without the looming anxiety and fear of detainment or deportation.

ICE actions have instilled fear and division within our neighborhoods, shattering the trust that is crucial for a thriving community. Statistics show that cities with sanctuary policies experience less crime and greater economic prosperity. By creating ICE-free zones, Long Beach can ensure that all its residents feel protected, supported, and free to live without constant worry.

Our community thrives on diversity and the contributions of immigrants are integral to the strength of Long Beach. Every person deserves to feel safe in their own city—to go to work, send their children to school, visit a doctor, or simply walk in the park without fear of being targeted by ICE.

We urge Mayor Rex and the City of Long Beach to stand up for its residents by issuing an immediate executive order designating ICE-free zones. This action is not only a statement of solidarity and acceptance but also a proactive step towards building a safer and more inclusive community for everyone.

Please join us in this crucial movement to ensure safety and equality for all members of our community. Your support can help bring about critical change. Sign the petition to demand ICE-free zones in Long Beach.
