Demand the establishment of a polytechnic in West Khasi Hills
The Issue
In the heart of West Khasi Hills, students face an arduous journey in the pursuit of education. Our youth eagerly aspire to advance their skills in technical education, but current opportunities are scarce and located far from home. This situation has forced many promising students to venture to distant cities, incurring high costs and enduring the hardships of living far from family and community. As a resident deeply invested in the future of our young generation, I cannot help but question—why is there no polytechnic institution in West Khasi Hills?
The establishment of a polytechnic institution within our region would transform the educational landscape. Such an institution would provide our students with invaluable opportunities right at their doorstep. It would not only alleviate the financial burden on families but also create a nurturing environment where students can thrive amongst familiar surroundings.
Our district boasts three capable Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) whose voices carry influence and authority. However, the silence surrounding the demand for a polytechnic is both perplexing and disheartening. These leaders are entrusted with the responsibility to address local concerns, yet they have not championed this critical issue. It is time they recognize the urgent need for local educational infrastructure and act decisively to fulfill this necessity.
Statistics from similar regions have shown that the presence of technical institutions fosters economic growth and enhances local skill development. By introducing a polytechnic, West Khasi Hills can unlock its potential, preparing our students to compete effectively in today’s technology-driven world. The region’s development hinges on the education of its youth, and providing accessible education must be our priority.
We call upon residents, educators, students, and all concerned citizens to join in this initiative. By signing this petition, you are standing up for the educational advancement and empowerment of our community. Let us collectively urge our MLAs to take immediate steps in establishing a polytechnic in West Khasi Hills. Sign this petition and be the catalyst for change—together, we can build a brighter future for our youth.
