This enclosure, pathetically smaller than a typical Airbnb in Florida, houses two dolphins. Its barren nature, devoid of any plants, rocks, or any earthly characteristics, severely inhibits the capacity for these incredible creatures to engage with their environment and behave naturally. This enclosure is less like a habitat and more like a prison.

Dolphins are intelligent and complex creatures. According to a study by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, they demonstrate advanced social and problem-solving skills and require a stimulating environment for their mental and emotional wellbeing. The current conditions at Barcelo Maya Beach are far from fulfilling these specific environmental needs of these animals.
