We, the residents of Dowagiac, MI, have been wronged by our city officials. Despite them knowing for up to two years that our water carried alarming levels of lead, they stayed silent. As a result, we've been forced to shoulder the costs of purchasing our own filters and bottled water while still paying the city every month. It's time for this to change.

Scientific findings from leading health organizations suggest an unequivocal presence of lead exposure in our city. Sustained exposure to lead can lead to profound health issues, particularly in children, with developmental issues and cognitive abnormalities. Though it is our right to safe and clean water, our trust has been betrayed.

Seeing that our health is endangered by the very thing that should sustain us, it's only right that the city either discounts our water bills by 50%, which reflects the value we are currently receiving, or provides us with two free replacement water filters each month, as well as a whole home filter. It is the city's duty to ensure that its constituents have access to clean water. 

Therefore, we are calling for immediate change. Let us band together and make our voices heard. It's time for our city officials to take accountability and take action. Let us demand the action we deserve. Please sign this petition to support our fight for clean water.
