Demand the Bureau of Land Management to Repeal the 2004 Burns Act or Increase Wild Horse Purchase Price

The Issue

As someone who has personally witnessed the neglect and improper maintenance of "Sale Authority" horses, I am deeply concerned about their welfare. These majestic creatures often end up in the wrong hands, being used for quick profit or in programs that lack proper training standards. This not only subjects these animals to dangerous conditions but also poses a threat to human safety.

The 2004 Burns Act currently allows for the sale of wild horses and burros at a low price, making it easy for these animals to be exploited. The Bureau of Land Management must either repeal this act or raise the Sale Authority Purchase price of any wild horse or burro to at least 1500 US Dollars.

According to a report by American Wild Horse Campaign (AWHC), over 100,000 wild horses have been sold since this act was passed - many ending up in slaughterhouses due to lax regulations and oversight (AWHC, 2019). This is not just an animal rights issue but also one concerning public safety and environmental balance.

We are calling on all animal lovers, environmentalists, and those who believe in justice for all living beings. Let us urge the Bureau of Land Management to take immediate action on this matter. Sign our petition today!
