Like thousands of concerned parents across the country, I'm witnessing children spending more time on apps like TikTok than engaging in their studies. Tragically, my own children have not been immune to this trend. Every day, they, along with thousands of youths, are consuming content riddled with adult themes and strong language. Many academic studies show a correlation between excessive use of social media and decreased academic performance; this can hardly be a coincidence.

TikTok, like many social media platforms, allows for the propagation of mature content freely, creating an environment unsuitable for our young generation. This unhealthy exposure could potentially lead to loss of interest in academics, let alone real-life skills, replacing it with a dubious quest for overnight fame and easy money.

The UK has always strived to safeguard our children's interests and protect their innocence as much as possible. Given the current situation, it's time to consider banning this platform notorious for its lax control over mature content. The precedent of bans has been set by countries like India, where TikTok was banned over similar concerns.
