The Issue

Every day, residents of the Gladstone , St Annes Road and Rusholme Drive residential corridor, particularly those near 277 Gladstone Avenue in Toronto, are subjected to relentless noise pollution emanating from Mondelez Canada’s facility. The incessant clamor reaches ear-splitting levels of up to 94 decibels, robbing us of peace, disrupting sleep, and making it nearly impossible to concentrate on daily tasks. This is not just a matter of inconvenience—it's a growing health concern.

As someone who’s been living in this neighborhood for 16 years, I can no longer focus on my work due to the constant droning and thumping noises permeating our community during all hours, exacerbating stress and leading to sleep deprivation. Imagine being jarred awake at night by the clamor of machinery or trying to have conversations drowned out by industrial noise. This is the everyday reality for us, the residents, who should have the right to enjoy our homes in tranquility.

According to the World Health Organization, prolonged exposure to noise levels above 70 decibels can lead to adverse health effects, including cardiovascular disease and cognitive impairment. At 94 decibels, Mondelez’s noise pollution far exceeds safe thresholds and creates an untenable living situation. We demand immediate action to bring these noise levels into compliance with municipal standards.

We urge Mondelez Canada to prioritize the well-being of their community by investing in effective noise reduction technologies and implementing operational changes such as sound barriers, quieter machinery, and noise curfews. It is paramount for them to conduct a noise impact assessment and engage with the community to address and resolve these pressing issues.

We cannot continue to be subjected to these conditions. By signing this petition, you are supporting our demand for Mondelez Canada to respect the community’s right to peace and quiet. Let’s ensure that our neighborhood remains a livable and enjoyable environment for everyone. Please join us in calling for immediate change and accountability. Sign this petition and help stop the noise pollution that is impacting our lives.
