The Issue

URGENT: We demand the city of Tampa police department, Tampa Florida’s 13th Judicial District State Attorney Susan Lopez, and other Florida authorities to thoroughly investigate and take appropriate legal action to charge THOMAS BACHERT NIEVES with two counts of vehicular homicide caused by his negligent & reckless driving as he failed to exercise the level of care that a reasonable person would in a similar circumstance while operating a massive dump truck, taking the lives of Ismael J Coss and Mark Frierson.

Immediately following this tragic accident, Thomas Bachert was given a court summons for careless driving, resulting in death, leaving him free to roam the streets and enjoy his life without suffering any consequences for his actions. His court date is scheduled 5 weeks after the incident.

It was a day like any other when our beloved Ismael Jose Coss, a compassionate boyfriend, brother, friend, and son was taken from us. His crime? Simply being doing his job for college hunks as he was instructed to put a yard sign on N. 50th St. & E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, in Tampa, FL. Sitting behind the wheel of the killer dump truck was Thomas Bachert, whose reckless driving extinguished two brilliant lives that day, as well as injuring two young children and a young woman, leaving nothing but destruction on a usually busy street.

This incident has left a gaping hole in our lives as we struggle daily to cope with the loss of Ismael, a beautiful, wholesome life that mattered and was full of potential.
Thomas Bachert , the individual responsible, is marching about freely – yet another glaring case of a broken justice system.

With lives lost and families torn apart, it's shocking to think that reckless driving accounted for 26% of all motor vehicle fatalities in 2018 (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). This statistic isn't just a number; it represents real people, real families, like our own, who have had their lives irrevocably altered by a fatal, preventable incident.

We, Ismael's family and friends, refuse to let Ismael be just another statistic. This is about Ismael, his story, and our undying love for him. It's about striving for change that goes beyond us, change that paves the way for a safer future for every one on the road.

We implore the legal system to serve justice by holding Thomas Bachert accountable for the loss and suffering he has caused. We would like to see a change in the legal system, especially when there is a life lost, consequences should be set in place and quickly. Let’s ensure Ismael's life and tragic end is not in vain. Please sign this petition and help us demand Justice for Ismael.
