We are calling on Taco Bell and its parent company, Yum! Brands, to immediately and permanently sever all supply-chain ties with Taylor Farms.

Following severe foodborne illness outbreaks—including the massive multistate Cyclospora outbreak linked to contaminated iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms—public safety has repeatedly been put at risk. Despite public health warnings and ongoing regulatory rollbacks, corporate lettuce suppliers continue to put profit over consumer safety.

Temporary ingredient removals during active outbreaks are not enough. Taco Bell must take a decisive stand for food safety by blacklisting Taylor Farms nationwide and sourcing exclusively from transparent, heavily vetted suppliers.

 

1. Taylor Farms contributed $1 million to a Trump-aligned super PAC.
2. On July 18, 2026, the FDA reported that a sample of Taylor Farms shredded lettuce tested positive for the Cyclospora parasite.
3. The very next day, the FDA rapidly reversed course, declaring the result a "false positive".
4. Taylor Farms immediately capitalized on this, publicly claiming the FDA had "made a mistake" and apologized to them. (Note: The FDA denied making an official apology.)

Despite the FDA walking back the lab test, the epidemiological evidence and thousands of patient interviews still point directly to Taylor Farms lettuce served at Taco Bell as the source of the massive outbreak.

 

Why This Matters

1. Repeated Food Safety Failures
This is not an isolated incident. Taylor Farms has been repeatedly linked to widespread produce-contamination outbreaks that have sickened thousands of consumers across the country:

July 2026: Over 1,600 people across multiple states fell ill with Cyclospora infections traced back to Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell and distributed to major retailers.
October 2024: Contaminated slivered onions supplied by Taylor Farms triggered a deadly E. coli outbreak across 12 states.

2. Compromised Accountability & Undermined Public Health
While public health surveillance agencies face regulatory delays and weakened oversight, corporate agriculture giants have relied on voluntary removals, regulatory lobbying, and PR maneuvers to shield parent brands from full accountability. When suppliers fight public health transparency and delay critical traceability rules, everyday fast-food consumers pay the price with hospitalizations and long-term illness.

3. Temporary Measures Are Not Enough
Taco Bell's temporary removal of affected lettuce during active outbreaks is a bare-minimum fix. As long as Taco Bell continues its multi-million dollar relationship with Taylor Farms, customers cannot trust that the food on their plates is safe.

Our Demands

Permanent Severance: Taco Bell must permanently terminate all contracts with Taylor Farms and its subsidiaries across all regional markets.

Transparent Supplier Vetting: Taco Bell must publicly release its food-safety audit standards and commit to third-party safety verifications for all primary produce suppliers.

Consumer Protections First: Prioritize public health over supplier convenience by adopting full supply-chain traceability for every fresh ingredient.
