Demand Stricter Consequences for Repeat Offenders and Informants

The Issue

As a member of a community continuously put at risk by the habitual criminal actions of repeat offenders and informants, I am deeply troubled. Infamous for their revolving-door engagements with the law, these individuals commit heinous crimes including, but not limited to, Driving While Intoxicated, drug possession, dealing drugs, domestic abuse, illicit firearm possession, and human trafficking. What compounds my frustration is the leniency shown to these offenders. Regrettably, they return to our neighborhoods with a mere slap on the wrist, free to continue their disruptive patterns.

It's time we draw the county officials and the judicial system's attention to our growing concern. This plea is borne out of countless voices in our community who have been either directly or indirectly harmed due to the lax regulation we currently experience. The impact of inaction by the authorities, coupled with plea deals and dismissals from the District Attorney's office, is troubling.

To cite an example, according to the United States Sentencing Commission, in 2020, around 96.4% of federal offenders pleaded guilty, receiving sentences that were, on average, 47.9% below the applicable guideline range. This statistic indicates the magnitude of the problem. The lack of effective administration allows prolific offenders to consistently return to the community, only strengthening the vicious cycle.

Our collective signature on this petition is a strong appeal for the implementation of stricter consequences for repeat offender informants. The safety of our community is paramount and we implore officials to perform their duties judiciously. Sign the petition. Let's make our streets safer for everyone.
