Demand Social Media Companies Reform Their Addictive Business Model

Demand Social Media Companies Reform Their Addictive Business Model
The Issue
My life has been deeply affected by the invasive nature of social media. It's not just me, but the entire world is feeling the strain of this constant digital presence. The addictive design of these platforms is fueling a mental health crisis that we can no longer ignore. I started a nonprofit surrounding this: NoSo
Social media companies have designed their platforms to be addictive, using algorithms that encourage endless scrolling and constant engagement. This business model exploits our natural human desire for connection and approval, leading us into an unhealthy cycle of dependence.
We are calling for a large-scale campaign this November where we log off from social media for 1-30 days as an act of protest against these harmful practices. We also urge everyone to share this information widely as part of an awareness campaign.
It's time we demand change from these companies who profit from our addiction. They must reform their business models and prioritize user wellbeing over profits.
According to a study by Harvard University, excessive use of social media is linked to mental health issues such as anxiety and depression (Harvard University, 2017). Furthermore, the Royal Society for Public Health in the UK found that Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter all harm young people’s mental health (RSPH Report "Status Of Mind", 2017).
Please sign this petition if you believe in creating healthier online environments free from addictive designs. Let's take back control over our digital lives!
Please share this petition and social media posts with your friends and family to make a change.
Donate to NoSo to continue spreading the word and educating young people in schools about these issues.
