Every day, Philadelphians depend on buses to get to work, school, medical appointments, and home. But at too many bus stops across the city, riders are expected to wait without even a place to sit or shelter from the weather.

For many riders, that isn't a minor inconvenience. Seniors, people with disabilities, pregnant riders, parents with young children, and anyone who has difficulty standing can be left waiting without a seat. When it's raining, snowing, or dangerously hot, stops without shelter leave riders exposed to the elements.

A public transit system should be accessible from the moment a rider arrives at the stop.

Philadelphia riders deserve bus stops designed around the people who actually use them. That means providing seating and weather protection at more stops across the city, with priority given to stops with long waits, high ridership, and riders with greater accessibility needs.

We are calling on SEPTA and the responsible Philadelphia officials to commit to a clear plan to expand seating and weather protection at bus stops throughout the city.
